Working Together AP-1.1

Don't Replace My Job

AI should work alongside humans, not throw them out.

Imagine logging into work one morning to find your entire department has been replaced by an AI system. No warning, no transition plan, no retraining offered. Just a polite email thanking you for your years of service. This is already happening — and without clear rules, it will only accelerate.

What This Means

This policy says that AI should be a tool that helps people do their jobs better, not a silent replacement that pushes them out the door. When companies use AI in ways that eliminate jobs, they should provide real transition plans — retraining, new roles, or support to help workers land on their feet. It is not about stopping progress; it is about making sure progress does not leave people behind.

A Real-World Scenario

Maria worked as a translator for 15 years. Her company quietly integrated an AI translation tool and within six months, her team of twelve was cut to three. No one offered retraining. No one discussed the transition. Maria found out her role was gone when her access badge stopped working on a Monday morning. With proper employment protection policies, her company would have been required to offer a transition plan months in advance.

Why It Matters to You

Because this could be your job next. Whether you work in customer service, accounting, writing, logistics, or healthcare — AI is coming for parts of every profession. You deserve a say in how that transition happens, and you deserve time and support to adapt.

For the technically inclined

AP-1.1: Employment Protection

AI systems should complement human work, not indiscriminately replace it. Where automation displaces roles, transition pathways should be considered.

What You Can Do

Ask your employer if they have an AI transition plan for your department. If they do not, push for one. Talk to your union or employee representatives about AI policies. Support legislation in your country that requires companies to provide retraining when AI displaces workers.
